Today's Kitchen Tip: How to slice soft items smoothly

I just hate it when I try slicing soft food such as tomatoes or bread and find that the knife, no matter how sharp, squishes the item I'm trying to cut.  If that happens, you may be using the wrong type of knife.

I love to use serrated knives to cut soft foods.  A bread knife (the knife on the top) works wonderfully for not only bread, but lots of other things.  The tomato knife (the knife on the bottom) slices tomatoes great, but also fruits and vegetables.

The teeth on the knife grab the food you are going to cut and slices through it without squishing things.

They do not get dull easily, but when they do, you will have to take them to be  professionally sharpened.

I'll put out a new tip each day.
