Today's Kitchen Tip: Storing potatoes and onions

Mesh storage bins
by Sturdy Collections
Living in Arizona it seems like we put everything in the refrigerator to keep it fresh.  Potatoes, garlic and onions, however, should not be stored in the fridge.

Refrigerating potatoes causes them to get really starchy and can affect flavor.  Refrigerating onions and garlic causes them to rot quickly.

A nice storage bin like the one shown works well for storing potatoes and onions/garlic if you have room.  You can also store them in the mesh bag that they came in.

Just do not store potatoes and onions in the same container as they will definitely cause things to rot quickly.
