Today's Kitchen Tip: Remove extra fat from gravy and soups

I love to make gravies and soups but sometimes they can be so full of fat that they are very rich and fattening.

There are several ways to remove the fat, but some of them are messy while others take too long to do.

My favorite way to remove fat is with a fat separator.  The one shown in the photo is the OXO fat separator.  It's the one I have and just love.  All you do is pour or ladle the liquid into the measuring cup and the fat rises to the top.  You can just pour the 'good' liquid into the dish you are preparing and the fat stays in the cup.  This one also has a 'strainer-type-top' which allows the big chunks to stay out of your liquid.

They are reasonably priced and will save you lots of time, energy and calories.

I'll put out a new tip each day.
