Pringles new cheesy quesadilla flavor chips review

I received a can of Pringles new cheesy quesadilla flavored chips to try out.  Since my husband never met a Pringle he didn't like, we were excited to try these chips.  The first can was mailed to me and arrived pretty broken up so I needed to receive a new package.  While I thought the broken chips may be destined for the trash, the can was quickly emptied.  Broken Pringles taste pretty good.

The next can arrived in much better shape.  With the name cheesy quesadilla, I expected corn chips.  I don't know why, but I did.  But these are regular potato chips with cheesy quesadilla flavoring.  I do have to say, they're pretty good.  After eating a few, my lips had just a hint of a burning sensation.  There's something just a little spicy in them.  I really like that.

My first inclination was to dip them in either salsa or some kind of Mexican dip.  While that would have tasted good, as with any Pringle, they are thin and delicate.  I guess I didn't miss the dip, though, because I really liked the flavor.

These chips are perfect out of the can, but I could imagine using these as a coating for chicken.  In fact, I was disappointed that the broken chips were eaten because I was going to make crumbs for sautéed chicken.

I would definitely buy these again.  In my mind, they are not a replacement for corn chips, but a nice change from them.

My thoughts on the best granola I ever tried

I recently received some Kashi products to sample.  One of the products was Kashi Organic Promise cocoa coconut with kamut granola.  That name is a mouthful but is worth remembering.

I usually like granola, but it can be high calorie and high fat.  While this one has 130 calories for 1/3 cup, it is well worth it.  It is not like other granolas.  First, it is chocolate.  What a nice treat.  This was delicious with a little milk, but would also be wonderful on top of yogurt.

Some other key information is that this is organic, non-GMO, no artificial additives or preservatives and it contains kamut.  Kamut is khorasan wheat which is higher in protein and many minerals, compared to modern wheat.  Kamut  khorasan wheat can be described as “high energy wheat.” People looking for high energy food will find products made with kamut khorasan wheat a valuable addition to their diet.

I'm thrilled that this is a healthier version of granola, but what kept going through my mind is that this would make a great pie or cheesecake crust.  So, that's what I'm going to try next.  If I can only keep my husband's hand out of the bag!!!  Do you think it's ok to hide it?

Over the next few days I'm going to try making a pie crust using this delicious cocoa coconut with kamut granola.  When I come up with a recipe that is fabulous, I will be sure to post it.

As an FYI, I also received a bag of cranberry spelt and flax granola.  It was really good, too, and only had 110 calories and 3 grams of fat for 1/3 cup.  That's a lot lower than most granolas.  It held up really well to a bowl of milk and the flavors were fabulous.

It's hard to pick which is a favorite.  Mine is the chocolate coconut granola and my husband's is the cranberry granola.  I guess I'll have to buy them both.

Both are sold in 11 oz packages at a suggested retail price of $3.99.  For more details see www.kashi.com.

Special K Pumpkin Spice Mini Wheats Review

We recently received a few samples of Special K limited edition cereals to try.  We already reviewed Special K Cinnamon Crunch and now it’s time to review Special K Pumpkin Spice Mini Wheats.

As we always do, we sampled some straight out of the box.  I expected to be hit over the head with the pumpkin flavor…but I was not.  It was good, but not really as ‘pumpkiny’ as I had hoped for.  When we added milk, we released a little more of the pumpkin flavor.  However, it was still a more subdued pumpkin flavor…good, but not fabulous.

The stats on this cereal are 190 calories for each 25 biscuits with 5 grams of protein…even before adding milk.  It also has 12 grams of sugar and 6 grams of fiber and is made with whole grains.

If you like mini wheats, you will enjoy this limited edition cereal.  I might buy it again as a special treat, but if I had to choose between the two I just reviewed, the Special K Cinnamon Crunch would win out.

Review of Special K Cinnamon Crunch Cereal

With fall coming soon, it seemed like the right thing to try.  I hoped that eating this ‘fall’ cereal would make the 110 degree heat we were dealing with seem cooler.  That did not happen, but the cereal cannot be blamed for that.

I recently received a box of Special K Apple Cinnamon Crunch Cereal to sample and review.

New Special K apple cinnamon crunch cereal has crunchy rice and wheat flakes with apple crumble clusters and the delicious taste of cinnamon.  This cereal is truly a comfort food.  I always start out by tasting cereals right out of the box.  I have to say, I couldn’t stop munching this one.  It was sweet and crunchy and had little white clusters of apple deliciousness mixed in.  I almost did not want to put it in milk…but I had to.  It was still really good eaten like it was intended to be and loved how the cereal stayed crunchy when mixed in milk.

I sample a lot of cereals and really like most of them; however, this one seems to be rising to the top.  I loved it and do not think that this limited edition cereal should be limited to the fall.

For the product details, for each ¾ cup, it contains 120 calories, 9 grams of sugar and 2 grams of protein.

I would run, not walk, to your local grocers to find this cereal.
