Today's Kitchen Tip: Easy way to core apples and pears

I love to make fruit dishes but always hated the way my apples looked once I tried to remove the cores.  I always ended up with funky shaped slices and a lot of waste.

Then I realized I had the perfect gadget at home already, and it was one I didn't use very much anyway.  This gadget is a melon baller.  All you need to do to remove the core is to cut the apple or pear in half, then use the melon baller to cut out the core.  You end up with a nice round spot where the core used to be.

It looks great, works well and is simple.  Best of all, it won't cost you a penny assuming you already have a melon baller in your kitchen drawer.

One thing to keep in mind...I had a Tupperware melon baller that was plastic and did not work.  You  need a metal melon baller since the edges act like a knife in the apple even though they are not sharp.

You will relegate your melon baller to the front of your gadget drawer with this very helpful tip.
